Why I Photograph the Same Families Year After Year

This was our third session together, and it's exactly why I love photographing the same families year after year.

Pockets of light that illuminate the magic of your home.

Not because it's easier (though the trust helps). But because I get to witness your story unfold across different stages, seasons, and chapters of life. I become part of your family's visual history, not just someone who captured a single moment in time.

This Currumbin Valley family recently moved to a sprawling property with two homes on it. They're renovating the second house, which will one day be their forever home. But right now, they're living in what was a beautiful rabbit warren home, and it's absolutely perfect.

The Gift of Trust

Here's what happens when we work together multiple times: you stop trying to be perfect.

Their home was lived in and family-centered. Toys on the floor. Light spilling through windows in unexpected pockets. Their cat weaving around. And Bonnie their girl, with a black eye from a kindy incident.

They didn't reschedule or try to hide it. They just showed up as they were.

That's the gift of an established relationship. You don't feel pressure to perform or stage your life. You trust me to capture what matters, mess and all. I'm not a stranger with a camera. I'm someone who already knows how the four of you gel together, the rhythms of your family, what you value.

Watching Your Story Unfold

When I first photographed this family, their oldest was one. Now she's almost 4. I've watched her personality emerge, seen the family dynamic shift and settle with the arrival of her little brother, documented the chaos and the calm.

We played on the floor with mum and dad this time, we walked over to the unfinished house on their property, the one they're slowly turning into their forever home. Standing on that empty porch felt significant because I'll likely be there again in a few years, photographing them in that space once it's filled with their life.

These sessions aren't just about the photos. They're about continuity. About having a visual thread that runs through your family's story, captured by someone who knows you.

Why This Matters

Your family changes so fast. The baby becomes a toddler. The toddler starts kindy. Before you know it, they're in school, then teenagers, then gone.

When the same photographer documents those different chapters, the collection of images becomes richer and more layered. You can see not just how your children have grown, but how your family has evolved. The way you hold each other. The rituals that have stayed the same. The ones that have changed.

And for me? I get the privilege of being trusted with your story over and over again. Of watching families I care about grow and shift and become. It's why I do this work.

If we've worked together before, I'd love to photograph your family again. Let's capture this next chapter together.
